Key Background
Samsung will take a massive leap forward in foldable technology on 9 July 2025 at its Galaxy Unpacked event. The Brooklyn, New York, live-stream event is reported to include the company’s newest technologies in smartphone design—most notably, its first tri-fold phone.
The tri-fold phone, more commonly referred to in leaks as the “Galaxy G Fold,” can revolutionize the future of the foldable market. In contrast to book-size and clamshell foldables today, the tri-fold version would have two folds and can unfold into a much wider tablet-type screen—presumably about 10 inches on full display. Folded, it should also feature a front screen of about 6.5 inches, so that it was still functional as a regular smartphone. The reports point to the fact that the screen will be bright and durable with sophisticated hinge mechanisms that will propel longevity and flexibility.
This highly anticipated release will accompany the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, the latest additions to Samsung’s premium foldable line. The new handsets reportedly sport thinner profiles, titanium construction, and enhanced camera gear. Hinge performance optimization, crease reduction, and display quality are also reportedly on the horizon. The two handsets reportedly ship in August, a few weeks following the event.
Samsung’s event name, as apparently christened “Ultra Unfolds,” reflects the company’s intention to break the boundaries of mobile innovation. Apart from the phones, Samsung will also unveil new wearables like the Galaxy Watch 8 series and the new Galaxy Buds.
With this move, Samsung is set to be the foldable leader in its not just better than existing models but new form factor. The tri-fold phone, though price-tagged as flagship, will redefine foldable technology and can set the pace for future mobile computing and productivity trends.
